Love is…
Being married for 16 years today.
Sharing our lives together for a quarter of a century.
Producing two beautiful, smart, talented children – the best thing we ever did.
Laughing at the same things.
Being brought a cup of tea in bed each morning before work (me).
Having your dinner on the table when you get home from a day at work (him).
Working as a team to drive the family forward, excelling in our respective areas to pick up the slack where the other one is weak, but together we are strong.
Just doing what needs doing without complaining or point scoring.
Being allowed to have an off day without being criticised for it.
Building each other up with words and actions.
Recognising that a relationship, however strong, is still a fragile thing and taking care of it.
Not taking the other for granted.
Working at it each day, even when some days are easier than others.
Kissing, often.
Hugging, even more often.
Family movie nights with the kids, the blinds drawn and a bowl of popcorn to share.
Saying what you feel without editing.
Being secure enough in yourself to hear what is said without defending or withdrawing.
Touching.
Living.
Being in the moment.
Knowing that you are the luckiest person in the world to have found the other.
Thanking God every day for them.
Having dreams together, planning for the future.
Whilst enjoying the now.
Being grateful.
Saying “I love you”.
If you have someone in your life to cherish, then you are blessed. If you know that, you will have peace. The grass is greenest where we water it.
